How to Become Anonymous

These tips will help you surf, email, work and play more privately and anonymously.

  1. Get a proxy server that hides your identity. If your ISP is a big one, you may already have a free 'anonymizer' working for you. If your ISP does not have this service (or you don't trust it) there are alternatives, e.g. IDzap, Anonymizer, Lucent Personalized Web Assistant, Webcache, Proxy Kren, and many others. These programs strip out IP addresses and other information that could compromise your identity. More info:

  2. Get a web based e-mail account that offers encryption. Some of these are: Hushmail, Freedom, Ziplip, Mailvault, Lokmail, and Steganos. Some popular portals like Yahoo not offer email encryption. Be sure to register using a pseudonym. [More Info]

  3. Open an e-gold™ account and put money in it. This is a good solid online payment system with considerable anonymity. Opening an account is free.

  4. Download PGP and generate a key-pair. Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) is a military grade cryptographic program. It allows you to enciper and sign messages, and verify other users' signatures. Just because you're anonymous, doesn't mean you can't do business.
